Governors State spent Labor Day on the road, taking on Missouri Baptist of the American Midwest Conference in the Gateway City. Missouri Baptist (3-0-0) remained undefeated with a 2-0 win at Spartan Stadium. Governors State stands at (1-2-2) heading into its conference opener.
The Spartans scored late in the first half on Ross Wilson's tally and added an insurance goal from Marko Dordevic with under 10 minutes left in regulation. The Jaguars played the last 11 minutes down a player after receiving a red card.
Governors State, which defeated MBU 2-1 last year in Crown Point, was limited to five total shots, including a pair on goal, while Missouri Baptist launched 12 shots. Pablo Rosso led GSU with two shots while goalkeeper Emigdio Tormo Lopez made four saves in his fifth consecutive start.
In the two weeks since GSU opened its season, the team has traveled 2,380 roundtrip miles. The long road trips are over as GSU has a week to prepare for its CCAC opener Saturday at Judson, located a mere 67 miles from campus.
