MEN'S SOCCER TIES WITH FIRST-PLACE OLIVET NAZARENE

It was almost a historic effort for the Governors State (7-3-5, 6-1-3) men's soccer program as two late goals allowed resulted in a 2-2 tie versus No. 15 Olivet Nazarene University (12-1-2, 8-0-2). CCAC top two teams played in a championship caliber atmosphere as the game had a significant meaning for both teams. ONU solidified first-place in the CACC standings as the Jaguars fell into fourth place.

First- half play resulted in both teams being held scoreless. The Tigers had an opportunity to score with a penalty kick 25 minutes into the game but could not convert as it went far right of the goal post. Despite the cold fidget air, both teams played aggressive and fast. After 45 minutes of play the score was 0-0.

GSU opening scoring in the 13th minute on Julian Herrero Corrales pretty goal off of ONU's Goalie Mike Giannotta saved attempt that bounced the ball perfectly for Corrales to kick the ball in the net to put the Jaguars up 1-0 with a little over 30 minutes of play left in the game. 17 minutes later Julian Herrero Corrales scored his second goal and gave the Jaguars a 2-0 lead with less than 15 minutes remaining in the game.

ONU with their backs against the ropes played faster and poised. 86:57 remaining on the clock, the Tigers scored their first goal of night putting the game score 2-1. Miraculously, .49 seconds later with 87:46 on clock Fabio Hasler scored their second goal of the night to tie the game 2-2. With under a minute left in regulation ONU force the draw.

GSU finished with a 7-10 shot disadvantage, pressuring Jaguars goalkeeper Emigdio Tormo Lopez into five saves.

With two games remaining in the regular season, Governors State will return to action on October 25th, at 7:00 p.m. in Davenport, Iowa where they will take on the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose.
