The GSU Jaguars staged a fourth quarter comeback before falling to Williams Baptist University 66-55 on the first day of the 2022 Winter Classic in the ARC. Goshen College edged Trinity Christian 65-56 in the other opening day tournament game.
The final score is deceiving with Governors State University poised on two late game possessions down three and four points to cash in and match Williams Baptist down the stretch. GSU closed to within 59-55 in the final three minutes on baskets by Angelique Cowan and Tabetha Jones. Cowan led the Jags (3-12, 2-6) in scoring with 17 points hitting 8-17 from the field and Jones contributed 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Jaguars' Aaliyah Hull had a game-high 10 rebounds and scored seven points with two blocked shots in the game.
