FORTY MINUTES OF SOLID PLAY LEADS JAGUARS TO 97-62 HOME WIN

Putting together a complete forty minute game Saturday at home against Calumet St, Joseph, the Jaguars beat the Crimson Wave 97-62. With the convincing win, GSU's 5-5 CCAC record puts them in a tie for 7th place halfway though the 20-game conference schedule.

The first ten minutes of the ball game saw GSU jump out to big leads and Adam Taylor continued his red-hot shooting for the Jags tallying 17 points in the half (6-7 field goals and 5-6 three-pointers).

Taylor's three-pointer with five minutes left in the first half gave GSU a 41-23 lead complimenting with Tai Walters-Whitaker running the offense dishing out five first half assists and scoring 10 points (2-3 three pointers). Nick Mikash and Jalen Levy each scored seven points in the opening twenty minutes.

GSU shot 16-28 field goals (57%) and a season-best 8-11 (72.7%) from three point land in the first half and held Calumet St, Joseph (2-9, 2-7) to 11-41 shooting (26.8%) to take a 48-27 half-time lead.

A season-best six Jaguars scored double figures in the win with all five starters hitting doubles, Taylor (20), Jalen Levy (17 in 19 minutes off the bench), William Bates (12), Nick Mikash (13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists), Tyler Clarke (11 points, 7 rebounds) and Walters-Whitaker (13 points, 9 assists, 2 steals).

Mikash registered a four-point play hitting a three-pointer and a free throw with 15 minutes left in the game to solidify the second half team play and give GSU a 59-32 lead. Clarke's stick back dunk with 12 minutes left put the winners up 69-38.  

Next up for Governors State (5-13, 5-5) is fifth place CCAC foe St. Francis (7-6, 6-3) Wednesday, 7 p.m. at home. And then a road game Saturday January 14, at Indiana-South Bend, 2 p.m. CST start.
