McGovern was the sole Republican candidate in the March 2024 primary contest. Her campaign focused on rebuilding jobs and supporting legislation aimed at protecting law enforcement officers from what she termed "dangerous social policies." Her platform also emphasized fiscal responsibility, school choice and vouchers, and an "Americans first" approach to immigration.
In her Facebook post on November 6, McGovern expressed her sentiments about the election outcome: "Last night’s outcome was not what I hoped for. I believe that every action in life has a purpose. It is never wasted energy to ‘Stand Firm’ in your beliefs. Right now I choose to be at peace because I know that God has a better plan and I have trust in His plan."
McGovern ran as the Republican candidate for Illinois House of Representatives District 36 after winning an uncontested race in the Republican primary held in March. On her campaign website, she describes herself as a mother and business owner committed to serving her community where she has lived for nearly 29 years.
