Cook County Commissioner Sean Morrison used his social media platform to criticize the Democratic Party's approach to gerrymandering in Illinois, highlighting what he described as a disparity between Republican voter representation and legislative control.

On August 22, 2025, Morrison wrote, "This is all you need to understand about the feigned hypocrisy of the Democrats on a National scale. In Illinois gerrymandering is most egregious. In spite of 44% republican voters, Democrat gerrymandering results in control of 66% of Illinois house seats. And 68% of Illinois". Later that day, he reaffirmed his position by stating, "Yep, still very true." On August 23, Morrison continued to emphasize his stance with another post: "Good morning.. still True! Carry on.."

Gerrymandering refers to the manipulation of electoral district boundaries for political advantage. In Illinois, redistricting has been a subject of ongoing debate and legal scrutiny. The state’s legislative maps have faced criticism from both parties over the years regarding fairness and representation. According to analyses by nonpartisan organizations and academic studies, recent redistricting cycles in Illinois have resulted in Democratic majorities disproportionate to their share of statewide votes.

Morrison’s comments reflect broader national discussions about electoral fairness and partisanship in drawing legislative districts. The issue remains contentious as states across the country prepare for future elections under newly drawn maps.
