Report: Elementary School District 159 spent $17,699 per student in 2016-17

Spending per pupil at Elementary School District 159 is up 22 percent from five years ago, according to a South Cook News analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2016-17 report card shows the Cook County school district spent $14,474 per pupil in 2012-13. It spent $17,699 in 2016-17.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 1974 to 1895.

Elementary School District 159's spending in 2016-17 was 36 percent higher than the state average of $12,973.
