Flossmoor School District 161 students suspended 366 times in a single school year

Flossmoor School District 161 reported 366 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 366 students during the year. That equates to 15.8 percent of the 2,313 students enrolled.

Of the 292 in-school suspensions, 224 were given to boys and 68 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 265 incidents. There were 25 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 233 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 74 out-of-school suspensions, 51 were given to boys and 23 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 36 incidents. There were 34 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 44 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
