Consolidated High School District 230 students suspended, expelled 560 times in a single school year

Consolidated High School District 230 reported one expulsions and 559 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 560 students during the year. That equates to 7.4 percent of the 7,530 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for one incident with drugs.

Of the 304 in-school suspensions, 249 were given to boys and 55 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 278 incidents. There were 17 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 303 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 255 out-of-school suspensions, 199 were given to boys and 56 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 137 incidents. There were 49 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 104 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
