Former state university employee O'Malley Absalon paid in $79K to pension fund, could collect $1.75M in retirement

Former state university employee Mary O'Malley Absalon, who retired in January 2018, saved $78,708 toward a pension over 16 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, O'Malley Absalon would collect as much as $1.75 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes South Cook News.

The projection assumes O'Malley Absalon received $36,879 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, O'Malley Absalon will have already received $113,989 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
