Former state university employee Madsen paid in $22K to pension fund, could collect $224K in retirement

Former state university employee Karen Madsen, who retired in July 2018, saved $21,569 toward a pension over 9 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Madsen would collect as much as $224,428, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes South Cook News.

The projection assumes Madsen received $4,717 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 5 years of retirement, Madsen will have already received $25,046 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
