Former state university employee Szydlowski paid in $66K to pension fund, could collect $665K in retirement

Former state university employee Diane Szydlowski, who retired in January 2017, saved $66,332 toward a pension over 6 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Szydlowski would collect as much as $665,115, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes South Cook News.

The projection assumes Szydlowski received $13,980 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 5 years of retirement, Szydlowski will have already received $74,220 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
