Nicole La Ha Zweircan, a candidate for Illinois State House District 82, expressed her deep appreciation for law enforcement during a recent police memorial ceremony. "I was deeply moved by the police memorial ceremony," said Zweircan, who is set to compete against Democrat Suzanne Akhras in the upcoming general election. She extended her gratitude to all those who spoke at the event and affirmed that she was profoundly touched by the proceedings.

"Last week, I was deeply moved by the police memorial ceremony in Springfield," said Nicole La Ha Zwiercan, according to Facebook. "It was a beautiful event, reminding us of the sacrifices our law enforcement officers make every day. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who spoke at the ceremony. I was moved by your words of tribute."

Zweircan, currently serving her first term as state representative and running for reelection, elaborated on her sentiments in a Facebook post dated May 6. "As we honor those who have given their lives for our safety, let's also recommit to supporting our law enforcement. They embody courage and selflessness, and their dedication doesn't go unnoticed. To all our officers, past and present, thank you. Your service will always be remembered," wrote Zweircan.

The Illinois Police Memorial organization's website reveals that two names were added to the memorial in 2024 along with four historic honorees. These included Officer Andres Mauricio Vasquez Lasso and Officer Areanah Makayla Preston of the Chicago Police Department who passed away on March 1 and May 6 of 2023 respectively. Other law enforcement professionals honored this year included Officer John Francis Kane of the Cicero Police Department, Sheriff Ray Boston of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Sheriff Andrew H. Sloan of the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, and Detective Todd C. Gillerlain of the Chicago Police Department.

Zweircan brings a rich background in public advocacy to her candidacy having previously served as press secretary for Senate Minority Leader Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods). Her involvement in charitable committees and receipt of the 2018 International Humanitarian Award are testament to her commitment to community service - an aspect prominently featured on her campaign website. During her tenure on the Village of Homer Glen Board of Trustees in 2021, Zweircan staunchly opposed tax increases and was instrumental in improving the quality of life for residents with disabilities. In addition to her service, she also holds the title of Mrs. America 2022.

Zweircan's current term representing House District 82 is set to conclude on January 8, 2025. The district encompasses Darien and Lemont in DuPage and Cook counties. Ballotpedia lists Democrat Suzanne Akhras as another candidate vying for representation of the district.
