Hazel Crest School District 152.5 students suspended 85 times in a single school year

Hazel Crest School District 152.5 reported 85 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 85 students during the year. That equates to 8.4 percent of the 1,006 students enrolled.

Of the 27 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 27 incidents. For 22 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 58 out-of-school suspensions, 40 were given to boys and 18 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 58 incidents. For 25 incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
