Former state university employee Brozek paid in $39K to pension fund, could collect $608K in retirement

Former state university employee Donald Brozek, who retired in July 2017, saved $38,940 toward a pension over 10 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Brozek would collect as much as $608,464, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes South Cook News.

The projection assumes Brozek received $12,789 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Brozek will have already received $39,530 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
