Former state university employee Ibarra paid in $49K to pension fund, could collect $726K in retirement

Former state university employee Georgeen Ibarra, who retired in June 2018, saved $49,266 toward a pension over 10 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Ibarra would collect as much as $726,231, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes South Cook News.

The projection assumes Ibarra received $15,264 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Ibarra will have already received $63,860 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
