Former state school employee Rigik paid in $22K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $488K in retirement

Former state school employee Steven Rigik, who retired in July 2017, saved $21,841 toward a pension over 5 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Rigik would collect as much as $487,798, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes South Cook News.

The projection assumes Rigik received $10,253 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Rigik will have already received $31,692 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
